The Kings Daughters building near the Duke University campus in nearby Durham, North Carolina, opened in 1926 as a second home for young single women living in the city and continued to serve for many years in that capacity before becoming a retirement community. It closed to residents in 1997 and reopened as an inn in 2009 run by Colin and Deanna Crossman. They dedicated themselves to preserving the historic architecture of the building while running the inn using sustainable practices, like recycling cans and rainwater.

The 17 rooms of the inn each have their own theme. Amenities include breakfast in bed or overlooking the Oak trees of Duke’s east campus. 2. The Arrowhead Inn

Also in Durham, the Arrowhead Inn is on a historic plantation that dates back to 1775. As such, guests here can choose from a room in the main manor house, a cottage, or a cabin. The inn caters to couples by offering extra amenities such as wine and chocolate, massages, fresh flowers, and a petal drop. Couples can also opt for packages such as a romantic dinner featuring a fireside gourmet meal with five courses on Friday or Saturday.

3. B&B Country Inn

B&B Country Inn in Apex, North Carolina is a dream realized for Bud and Beth McKinney who always wanted to have a beautiful place for people to get married after they had trouble finding a spot for their 1969 wedding. They opened the Inn in 1997, and it spans over eight acres with each of the four themed rooms decorated to honor a member of the McKinney family. Bud and Beth also opened their inn to give house hunters in the Apex area a place to stay during their search.

Today, their Innkeepers, Linda and Tom, help provide guests with good food and a relaxing atmosphere.
