How to Ensure Your Car Stay Warms Throughout Winter

November 26th, 2018 by

Did you drive throughout the summer without a fully functioning heating system in your car without getting it evaluated? If so, you may find yourself in a tough spot with winter at your doorstep. If you have the capability, now could be a good time to have your car’s heating system checked over for any potential issues. If that’s not an option, here’s what you can do to stay warm throughout the winter.

Get Your Car Fixed if You Can

If your car’s heating system is not working properly, getting it fixed is the best way to ensure you’re driving in comfortable cabin conditions day in and day out. Even if your vehicle’s system is still working, but you feel it’s not working as well as it used to, or it’s just not getting warm enough during the winter, have the system tuned up so it’s like new. It could be something as simple as a new fuse or small fan. Putting off small repairs can lead to larger problems down the road.

Get a Thermal Car Cover

If you need a way to help your car retain a bit of heat while you run some errands or go to work, look into getting a thermal car cover to trap some heat in the car while it sits outside. Even if it’s not a full car cover, which can be tedious to put on and take off frequently, even a windshield cover will trap some heat in the vehicle.

Pick Up a Warm Beverage

As if you needed an excuse to pick up a hot seasonal latte or coffee on your way to work on a Monday. Simply having a warm beverage at hand can make you forget your car’s heater isn’t working as well as it should. If your budget is too tight for daily trips through the drive-thru this winter, make some coffee at home and store it in a large vacuum flask. You usually get more coffee with the latter route, and who can argue with more coffee?

Purchase Some Plugin Heated Seats

Desperate times call for desperate measures. You can buy some heating pads built specifically for your car’s seats that plug directly into any 12-volt outlet in the vehicle. Remember to make sure your car has 12-volt access near the seats you’d like to heat. This will keep you warm no matter how cold it gets outside.

Pack Extra Blankets and Hand Warmers

Lastly, pack a few extra blankets and an emergency mylar blanket or two. Your passengers will thank you for thinking of them on a cold winter drive without a heater. The mylar emergency blankets work the best, as the reflect around 90 percent of your body heat back to you, which makes things toasty real quick.

Staying warm in the winter without functioning car heaters can be remedied with a few simple tricks. However, it’s important to make sure your car is serviced if there are any issues with the AC or heating system. Using the heater helps keep the engine cool and the AC is used to defrost the windshield.
