Labor Day Weekend Getaways in the Raleigh Area

Celebrated on the first Monday in September, Labor Day is typically a time for people to spend one last long weekend outside before summer comes to a close. Raleigh is an ideal spot to spend this three-day weekend since the state’s capital offers a variety of cultural attractions, festivals, and entertainment. Find out what getaways await near the Raleigh area.

Check Out a Festival

The African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County is a two-day event that celebrates culture through art, food, music, and community. You can sample numerous types of food provided by vendors, watch artists perform, and meet with local business owners. This free festival, which takes place in downtown Raleigh, also features an art gallery walk that lines both sides of Fayetteville Street.

Another free option involves visiting downtown Raleigh’s monthly arts festival. On the first Friday of every month, galleries and museums stay open late and encourage visitors to check out their exhibits. One of the places you can visit is the North Carolina Museum of History where you can get a preview of “Selma to Montgomery: A March for the Right to Vote: Photographs by Spider Martin.”

Enjoy Some Food and Drinks

To experience some of the nightlife in Glenwood South, join Crawl Raleigh on Sunday, Sept. 2, starting at 9 p.m. at Noir Bar and Lounge. Once you check in, you receive an event band, which allows you to enter certain venues and receive drink specials.

Another event held at Noir Bar and Lounge is the Ques LABOR DAY Cookout and Day Party. Sponsored by the Mighty Iota Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the 21-and-older event occurs on Saturday, Sept. 1, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. and features cookout fare as well as music by DJ Assassin.

Pitt Street Brewing Company in nearby Greenville hosts an All White Day Party on Sunday. Billed as one of the weekend’s premier events, the party gives you a chance to showcase your personality and style. Enjoy food from various food truck vendors and try a cocktail from one of two open bars. DJ KGRADY provides plenty of entertainment during the 3-7 p.m. event.

Recharge at a Bed and Breakfast

Found in midtown Raleigh, Northshore Lake House provides a spot for you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the view of the lake. There’s a private pier where you can fish or watch nature. However, if you prefer the indoors, the home’s social activities room houses a wet bar, gas fireplace, and piano.

Although not directly found in Raleigh, The Kings’ Daughters Inn is in nearby Durham. No two rooms at the bed and breakfast are the same, so you can experience a range of 1920s styles. Each space includes luxurious robes, all-natural toiletries, and triple-sheeted beds.
